Investments enable youth to build their leadership skills in Sydney

Because of your investments, opportunity was created for eight young people to attend the National Young Adult Leaders conference held last month in Sydney.

Hosted by Rev. Prof. Andrew Dutney (President of the Uniting Church in Australia) and Ref. Rronang Garrawurra, (Chair of the Uniting Aboriginal and islander Christian Congress) the conference was held in Sydney for leaders and potential leaders from across the country aged 18-30 with delegates representing the UCA’s diverse cultural groups.

Representatives from the Northern Synod included;

From Raminingining:
Gawinygawiny Gaykamangu
Vashti Gaykamangu
Florence Maliburr

From Gapuwiyak:

Damien Guyula
Eunice Wunungmurra
Bridie Guyula

From Indonesian Missionary Congregation
Liusem Mauboy
Kevin Sapardi

The young leaders were accompanied by mentors; Pastor Stuart McMillan (The Northern Synod Moderator) and the Synod’s National Youth Activities Project Officer, Jemma Whittaker.

Liusem Mauboy from the Indonesian Missionary Congregation explained, “It was a great, exhilarating experience because you are able to meet people your age that share similar ideologies.”

The conference provided a fantastic opportunity for young attendees to charge their batteries, connect with one another, and come away with fresh ideas, having had a lot of fun in the process.

"The Northern Synod and the young people who attended the Conference, greatly appreciate the generous grant provided by UC Invest which enabled them to participate in this empowering and life-changing conference
