Leading SA soloists resonate with the community

For the past five years, Wesley Uniting Church has been treating audiences to an annual Winter/Spring Concert Series, presenting some of the state’s leading soloists, making them accessible for the wider community to enjoy.

UC Invest provided a contribution to the series of five monthly one-hour ‘Wednesday Concerts’. The concerts resonated with audience members and attendance was strong with up to 140 attending each performance from May to September.

Esteemed Soprano Brooke Window, who travelled to Europe last year with the Adelaide Chamber Singers, collecting the coveted ‘Choir of the World Pavarotti Trophy’ at the Welsh Llangollen International Eisteddfod, indulged guests with her stunning repertoire for the first of the 2014 Concert Series in May.

Other musicians involved in the 2014 program, included Clarinet Trio Eclectica, and Tenor Tasso Bouyessis. In addition, hundreds of local school children from Pembroke’s Junior Orchestra and Prince Alfred College’s Brass Ensemble also performed at Wesley Uniting Church.

Organists Andrew Ampt, Alexander Paine, Mark Jayner, Graham Bell and Alana Brook all showcased their work on the majestic JE Dodd Pipe Organ, which was installed at Wesley Uniting Church in 1898 and manufactured in England.

Dr Mark Symons, Wesley Uniting Church Chairman of the Council and organiser of the ‘2014 Wednesday Concerts’ said “The Concert Series are a Community Outreach – an opportunity for members of all walks of life to come together and enjoy some harmonious music, played by some exceptionally gifted musicians and local school groups.”

“UC Invest’s support has enabled us to publicise the Concert Series to reach a broader and more diverse audience,” Dr Symons said.

Wesley Uniting Church is showing no signs of slowing down in 2015 as preparations are underway for the 150 Years Celebration of Christian Witness at Kent Town.
