Finding passion creates opportunity at Yurora

UC Invest were proud to support 50 disadvantaged youths from the South Australian Uniting Church community with a $7,000 donation that enabled them to attend the National Christian Youth Convention (NCYC). The four day convention held in Parramatta, NSW was a great way for the young SA delegates to explore and celebrate their faith in an all-inclusive environment.

The theme for the 2013 convention was Yurora an indigenous word of the local Dharug people that translates as Passion.

Dr Deirdre Palmer, Uniting Church Moderator, who attended the convention with the group of South Australian delegates, explains the theme; Its about delegates finding their own passion, in terms of making a difference to the world.

Dr Palmer continues, The event encourages delegates to grow in faith, exploring their relationship with God.

The convention hosted biannually by a Presbytery of the Uniting Church was enjoyed by over 1,000 youths between 16- 25. They came from all corners of the Country; from as far as Port Augusta and even Port Elcho in the Northern Territory.

Although finding ones own Passion was a focus, many delegates were keen to share what they had learned and pass on the enthusiasm as Dre Ngatokoruo of Port Augusta explains; I will try and take back the things Ive learned here to all the kids that werent able to come, so I can teach them the same things.

The events were deliberately unstructured with a focus on choosing your own adventure. Organisers ensured youths had time to pause, reflect and engage with others to explore their faith.
