Fixed Term Investment. (FAQ)

What is a Fixed Term Investment?

How long can I invest for and what is the minimum investment?

What are the current interest rates and fee schedule?

Is the interest rate fixed?

Yes. Your interest rate is locked in when your investment starts and won’t change during the term.

How is interest calculated and paid?

Interest is calculated daily based on your balance.

  • For terms under 12 months, it is paid at maturity
  • For terms of 12 months or longer, it is paid every 6 months and at maturity

Where is my interest paid?

You can choose to have your interest:

  • Reinvested into your investment
  • Paid into another UC Invest account in your name
  • Paid into your nominated external bank account

Interest is usually paid at maturity or every 6 months (for longer terms).

If paid to your external bank account, it may be paid more frequently, such as monthly or quarterly.

Can I access my money during the term?

No. Once your Fixed Term Investment begins, you won’t be able to add to or withdraw from it until the end of the term.

Can I withdraw early if I need to?

Early withdrawals may be considered in limited circumstances, but approval is required and an early redemption fee may apply.

What happens at the end of the term?

Before your investment matures, we’ll contact you with your options. You can choose to withdraw your funds or reinvest for a new term.

You’ll also have a 14-day grace period after maturity to make changes to your investment without penalty.

What is the grace period?

After your Fixed Term Investment reaches maturity, you have a 14-day grace period to decide what you’d like to do next such as withdrawing your funds or reinvesting.

During this time, you can make changes without penalty.

Can I add more money after opening the investment?

No. Once your Fixed Term Investment is set up, you cannot add additional funds during the term.

Can I manage my investment over the phone?

Yes. If you’re registered for Telephone Transfer Service (TTS), you can give instructions by phone, such as:

  • Reinvesting or closing your investment at maturity
  • Changing your term or moving to a different product
  • Updating how your interest is paid

For security reasons, some requests may still need to be confirmed in writing.

Can I view my investment online?

Yes. If you have access to UC Invest Online, you can view your balances, transactions, and statements.

What should I consider before investing?

A Fixed Term Investment is designed to be held for the full term. You won’t be able to access your funds during this time, so it’s important to only invest money you won’t need in the short term.

Can I add more money after opening the investment?

No. Once your Fixed Term Investment is set up, you cannot add additional funds during the term.

Is a Fixed Term Investment right for you?

A Fixed Term Investment may suit you if you:

  • Want a fixed interest rate you can rely on
  • Are comfortable locking your funds away for a set period
  • Don’t expect to need access to this money during the term
  • Prefer certainty over flexibility

It may not be the right fit if you:

  • May need access to your money in the short term
  • Prefer the flexibility to withdraw or add funds at any time
  • Are unsure about committing to a fixed timeframe

If flexibility is important, consider a 31-Day Notice Account instead.
