In Australia, a wholesale investor is someone who meets specific financial or professional criteria that demonstrate a capacity to understand and manage investment risks.
This classification is outlined in the Corporations Act 2001 and is designed to distinguish investors who do not require the same level of regulatory disclosure as retail investors.
Wholesale investors are typically individuals or entities with substantial financial resources and/or investment experience.

Wholesale investors are considered to have the financial capacity and experience to understand and appropriately assess the risks of their investments.
Therefore, they may benefit from a streamlined investment process due to reduced regulatory requirements. Wholesale investors are also granted access to a more diverse range of investment options.
It is however important to note that wholesale investors may not have the same consumer protections when compared to retail clients.
