A Church Plant with a Fruitful Vision.
“The grant enabled the church to invest in its young people by employing its first full-time staff member: a Children and Youth Pastor. It was a pivotal moment. For the first time, we had someone whose sole focus was building safe, regular, and meaningful programs for children and young people, and providing consistent support to families.”
When Mitcham Hills UC opened eight years ago, it was little more than a handful of families meeting in a borrowed classroom. Everyone involved believed in its mission, but like many new faith communities they were running on enthusiasm rather than certainty.
As the church grew, one priority quickly became clear: children and young people were at the heart of its ministry. Families were attending regularly; kids filled the room. But without dedicated leadership, this growth felt fragile.
That changed with support from UC Invest, who provided the funding they needed to strategically pursue this mission opportunity.
“I wanted to start off by saying thank you to UC Invest for the grants they have given to our Church. It has impacted so many people. It has allowed Mitcham Hills Church to employ me to oversee all the kids, youth and their families within the church community. On top of that we have been able to purchase some awesome activities to help the kids and youth enjoy being a part of Mitcham Hills Church Community.”
With financial assistance from UC Invest, Mitcham Hills were finally able to bring their vision to life in an ambitious, sustainable way. They went on to create dedicated spaces for children and youth and expand outreach to the wider community. It wasn’t just about buildings or budgets it was about empowering the congregation to focus on what mattered: connection, growth, and belonging.
The impact was tangible families felt confident investing time there; youth programs grew; children returned week after week to a space that tended to their wellbeing and faith formation. A community that could have remained small and stretched thin, became one with momentum and stability.
Today, the church is a spiritual home to over 160 people, most of them young families. Children and youth remain central to its life, and the hope of a permanent home is no longer distant or abstract, but something they are actively working toward.
At the same time, the church began planning for the long term. Rather than relying on short-term solutions, they chose to invest with UC Invest, setting aside funds through two investments with the hope of securing their own church building one day.
It was a decision grounded in trust, trust that their money would be managed ethically, and trust that their future mattered.
“I have been blessed to be employed as a value leader in our church as a direct result of UC Invest funding received by Mitcham Hills Church. The funding made it possible for me to lead with purpose, strengthen our shared values and contribute meaningfully to the life and mission of our church. “
